Hello
I have a come across with the mentioned SPSS Training book, but I do not have the CD with the datasets - therefore, the book is useless at this point.
Can anyone please upload the datasets?
Thanks a lot.

Career in data mining
-
I absolutely love data mining and I already have a B.S. in Computer Science. What would you recommend for someone who wants to work in data mining as a career? Do you many employers hire data miners w/o a masters degree (or higher)?

clustering : wich software to use to start?
-
hallo
I'm absolutely new in
multivariate analysis and statistic is not my field. I have to analyze some data
and I'm looking for appropriate software/procedures. I saw on this site (and
articles, books, etc…) there are a lot of possibilities, but I can’t find the best one for my task.
I’m trying to analyze (by
clustering) brands investments in advertising, for each communication channel.
My database :
Period : 600 weeks
91 brands (representing 99%
of the related market in that nation)
6 advertising channels (tv, newspapers
. . )
The data are in .txt files
, every file represents the investment of the “i” brand in the “k” channel.
About 70-90% of the brand-channel-week
cube’s cells’s value is zero
I'm basically following " Methods Of Multivariate Analysis"Rencher methods and other articles about clustering methods with software
Which software do you advice
me to use? I don’t know statistic software, I always used Mathlab for
statistical computation. I found a lot of articles about clustering with SPSS.
Do you think could it be a right choose
for my task? Any open source software so much user-friendly ?Due to the necessity to present the results also to inexperienced
people like me, I’d be interested in software with good visualization of the
results (I also need to work on pattern recognition, etc…). Do you think could I find pc-computational problems with this database dimension?
Any advice is really
welcome
Thanks in advance
Giacomo

Looking for an algorithm for solving the follwing Problem
-
I have two groups of items (group of T's and group of I's) , this T's and I's are connected between them by a relation (for example T knows I , I knows T)which i want to divide into many sub groups (optimal sub groups) by using two rules only
1)Each T can be present in only one group of T's, and each I can be in only one group of I's.
2)Inside each subgroup of T's that is connected to subgroup of I's all T's must be connected to all I's and all I's must be connected to all T's
I sure that some one already invented a alghorithm to solve this kind of problem, of how to find this groups

Understanding the usage of database mining
-
Hello
I know that Clementine can execute the mining algorithms of a SQL Server or an Oracle; but, why would be the motivation for doing so? I mean, If you already have a tool for data mining, why would you use the algorithms of another tool?
Thanks a lot.

Looking for practical Data Mining resources (a math-less approach)
-
Hello
I am trying to learn Data Mining by my own, emphasizing in the problem at hand and the desired results. Some books that I have come across excel in showing the nature of the algorithms, the math involved. At this point, this information is of no use. Do you know of resources where I can find the kind of info I am looking for?
Thanks a lot.

I am curious: There is a special section for SPSS Clementine and MS SQL Server Data Mining (for example), but the same does not hold true for Insightful Miner. Why?

Relative Importance of Inputs
-
Hello,
I have some concerns about the Relative Importance of Inputs list that is given in a generated neural net model. I generated a neural net model to predict a binary outcome (churn/no churn). According to the Relative Importance of Inputs list, "age" is a very important attribute. However, in my training set, the average age of people who churn is almost exactly the same as the average age of people who do not churn. I ran into the same issue w/ several other numerical attributes that were listed high on the Relative Importance of Inputs list.
Can someone shed some light on this? I'm somewhat new to Clementine and data mining, so I'm obviously just missing something.
Thanks for your help!

Running model against Test set
-
Hello,
I'm new to Clementine and I'm trying to run my model against my Test set so that I can see how accurate it it, how the lift looks, etc. I'm trying to predict a binary outcome. I'm bringing my data in from excel and running it through the following nodes in this order: Type, Balance, Partition, Neural Net. The Partition node splits the dataset into 75% train and 25% test.
I'd like to test my model against the Test set and get feedback on accuracy, lift, and gain. Where do I connect my generated Neural Net model node in the stream in order to do that?
Thank you!

Data Mining with SPSS v16
-
Hello
Considering that v16 include some algorithms that are found in SPSS Clementine, is SPSS suitable for data mining?
When would you consider to use Clementine instead of SPSS for data mining? That is, what are the limitations of SPSS regarding data mining?
Thanks a lot.
