Issues Affecting Web Traffic Analysis Reporting Part 1

ISSUES AFFECTING WEB TRAFFIC ANALYSIS REPORTING (PART 1)

Accurate reporting of web traffic statistics is necessary to win the confidence of advertisers, sponsors and affiliates. You can also make costly mistakes in terms of money and time when you make decisions based on inaccuracies in your web traffic analysis reports. Changing your web traffic analysis software will not necessarily solve your reporting issues because each traffic analysis vendor will report a different set of numbers for the same Key Performance Indicator (KPI) like Page Views. The real trick is to identify the assumptions behind your traffic statistics reports. In this post I will introduce you to both errors and assumptions that can affect the accuracy of your web traffic statistics reports and recommend solutions that will reduce or eliminate these errors.

The 6 error sources I will introduce in part 1 are :

  • Page Caching
  • Page Hits
  • Cookies or Ip Addresses
  • Spiders and Robots
  • Http Status Codes
  • Human Errors
